What inspired you to become an Athletic Therapist?
I am passionate about healing, I love sports, and I am passionate about education and learning.
This profession is the perfect way for me to aid people in healing and reaching their goals, while educating them about their bodies in a way that is easy to understand, and unintimidating. Our knowledge in sideline assessment and injury management was the big thing that pushed me towards AT instead of physiotherapy.
What is the one piece of advice you wish every client knew?
Being able to understand the why behind our pain is crucial. If we don't address the mental and emotional pieces that contribute to the physical ones, we may never get to the long term results.
What do people find most surprising about AT?
Our assessment style emphasizes education and understanding of your body and your injury!
Describe your proudest moment or greatest success as an AT
Being able to recognize the impact that mental health and emotional stress may have on injury, pain and healing. Helping clients access the awareness of the correlation between these two areas is always rewarding.
