Athletic Therapists undergo stringent education and testing standards in order to certify at the national level. Each must attain a University Bachelors degree and collect 1200 practical hours in order to apply to write the national exam.
The National Exam consists of a written and practical portion – covering both the clinical and field settings. Once certified, members must adhere to the Constitution, Code of Ethics, Scope of Practice and Policies and Procedures of the AATA and CATA in order to maintain their membership in good standing. This includes carrying professional liability insurance and first aid requirements, along with continuing education.
